Can You Sell Peptides on Shopify? No, and Here's Your Actual Move

July 21, 2026 · 3 min read · Skald Studio

Can you sell peptides on Shopify? You can start to.

That's the cruel part. The store builds fine, the theme looks great, you might even take orders for a while. Then the policy bot wakes up, and your business gets an email instead of a storefront.

What the platforms actually say

Shopify's acceptable use and restricted products policies give it the right to drop merchants selling products it classifies as restricted, and peptides sit squarely in the category that gets flagged. Same story with mainstream payment processors: Stripe and PayPal maintain restricted business lists that cover this space.

It doesn't matter that your business is legal. Platforms aren't courts. They're landlords, and the lease says they can change the locks whenever their risk team gets nervous.

We've watched this movie in another industry: we build for holster makers, and platform eviction of perfectly legal businesses is a genre there too. The plot never changes. Only the product does.

"But I know a peptide store on Shopify right now"

Sure. There are always tenants who haven't been noticed yet.

Some stores fly under the radar for months or years. That's not a strategy, that's a countdown with an unknown timer. And when it hits zero you lose the storefront, the URL equity you built, and sometimes access to your own customer data, mid-season, with inventory on the shelf.

The worst time to build your real website is the week after your platform store disappears.

Don't sneak. Own.

Here's the move that actually works, and it's not a trick: get off rented land entirely.

A self-hosted custom website means:

  • No platform policy applies to you. There's no landlord to get an email from.
  • Your customer list is yours. In a niche where ads are mostly off the table, that email list is the most valuable asset you own.
  • You pick a payment processor built for high-risk merchants, and your site becomes part of that application. Underwriters read your website. Clean labeling and real policy pages get approvals; neon chaos gets declines.
  • Your COAs do the selling. Peptide buyers check purity before price. A site you control can put batch testing front and center instead of wherever a template allows.

This is exactly what we build. Here's our peptide website design service, and here's what custom work costs (flat, public, no retainer).

Frequently asked questions

Is it illegal to sell peptides online? That's a question for a lawyer, not a web studio, and the answer depends on what you sell and how it's labeled. What we can tell you: plenty of research suppliers and licensed clinics operate in this space, and platform bans are about platform risk appetite, not verdicts on your legality.

What about WooCommerce? Self-hosted WooCommerce avoids the platform-eviction problem, and it's a real option. You still need high-risk payment processing and a site that looks credible to underwriters and buyers. The platform is the easy 20 percent; the structure and trust design are the hard 80.

Can I just not mention peptides on my Shopify store? Miscategorizing products to dodge a platform policy is a great way to lose the store and the payment account, with your funds held while they investigate. Don't build your business on a lie with a paper trail.

What payment processors work for peptide companies? High-risk merchant processors exist for exactly this market. We don't broker those relationships, but we build sites their underwriters approve of, and we integrate whichever gateway you land.

The bottom line

Shopify's policies make peptide stores a tenant-at-will situation, and eviction usually comes at the worst time. Under-the-radar is a countdown, not a plan.

The real move is infrastructure you own: self-hosted store, your customer list, COAs front and center, processor-friendly structure.
